Mario Kart Tour Tier List: The Best Drivers in Nintendo’s Mobile Kart Racer on iPhone and Android (Updated for Winter Tour!)

Updated with the new Drivers from the Winter Tour!

We’ve also included a new E Tier, as we felt the new Bob-omb Cannon Special Skill was worse than the others in that list. We’ve also made certain adjustments throughout the list based on our time spent with the game. Here are the changes:

Mario Kart Tour Tier List will help you decide which drivers, karts, and gliders are the best to pick in Nintendo’s mobile kart racer. We’ll walk you through who we consider to be the best drivers, and then take a look at our favourite karts and gliders to combo them with.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the best drivers, karts, and gliders organised by tier in Mario Kart Tour on iPhone and Android.

A Note on Bonuses:

Before we move onto our tier list, we wanted to provide a quick note on bonuses. Each track boosts the score and combo bonus for certain drivers, karts, and gliders, and picking those can provide you with a serious advantage in the race ahead.

While our tier list focuses on the categorical best drivers, karts, and gliders, it might well be that the best for a particular race is those that receive a bonus.

Drivers:

A Tier:

The A Tier includes drivers with Special Skills that are great at taking out multiple drivers at once, providing you with a huge advantage. They include the incredibly powerful Bowser’s Shell, lead-holding Big Banana, and Lucky Seven, which is great for getting ahead of the pack.

King Boo

King Boo is, by quite a wide margin, the best new driver that was introduced during Mario Kart Tour’s Halloween Tour. His Lucky Seven special skill is the same as Pauline’s, herself an incredibly strong character. The best part is, he’s not even a Spotlight character so you actually have a decent chance of getting him.

Special Skill Description
Lucky Seven Surround your kart with seven items. Tap once to use them all!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Shy Guy Bazaar
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Ghost Valley 1R

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Choco Island 2T
  • Waluigi Pinball
  • Ghost Valley 1
  • Ghost Valley 1T
  • Paris Promenade 1T

Bowser Jr.

The Bowser youngster is right up there with Bowser himself, offering the same excellent Special Skill and a whopping four three item Favoured Courses. If you see him in the shop, grab him.

Special Skill Description
Bowser’s Shell Hurl this sharp shell in front of your kart to scatter opponents

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon T
  • Paris Promenade 1T
  • Bowser’s Castle 1R
  • Neo Bowser City
  • Neo Bowser City T
  • Choco Island 2R

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Bowser’s Castle 1T
  • Neo Bowser City R
  • Mario Circuit 2T
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon

Morton

Morton is one of the best racers to arrive in the Tokyo Tour, and that’s thanks to his Special Skill, Giant Banana, which he shares with the excellent Donkey Kong. With only a single three item favoured course though, you probably won’t use Morton as much as you’d like. Still, when real multiplayer actually makes an appearance, Morton will be an excellent option that’s easy to get.

Special Skill Description
Giant Banana This particularly stern-looking Giant Banana splits into three Bananas when hit.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Kalimari Desert

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Mario Circuit 3R
  • Bowser’s Castle 1
  • Kalimari Desert T
  • Neo Bowser City T
  • Rock Rock Mountain
  • Mario Circuit 2R

Dry Bowser

Dry Bowser is our joint favourite Mario Kart Tour driver. His Special Skill Bowser’s Shell is so powerful, decimating all opponents ahead of you with its large size and fast speed.

Special Skill Description
Bowser’s Shell Hurl this sharp shell in front of your kart to scatter opponents

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Dino Dino Jungle
  • Dino Dino Jungle T
  • Bowser’s Castle 1R
  • Shy Guy Bazaar R

  • Daisy Hills T
  • Bowser’s Castle 1
  • Rock Rock Mountain
  • Rock Rock Mountain T
  • Kalimari Desert T
  • Neo Bowser City
  • Neo Bowser City R

Pauline

Pauline is the current Spotlight Driver in the Item Shop, and it’s easy to see why. She’s the only Driver in Mario Kart Tour that can use the Lucky Seven Special Skill, which will be familiar to any of you who played Mario Kart 7 on 3DS. It allows you to use seven items at once, which is madness.

Special Skill Description
Lucky Seven Surround your kart with seven items. Tap once to use them all!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Daisy Hills R/T
  • Luigi’s Mansion R
  • Waluigi Pinball T
  • New York Minute 1
  • New York Minute 1 R/T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • DK Pass T
  • Rainbow Road R/T
  • Luigi’s Mansion T
  • Neo Bowser City
  • Yoshi Circuit T
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon T
  • Shy Guy Bazaar
  • Shy Guy Bazaar R
  • New York Minute 1T
  • New York Minute 1R

Bowser

Bowser is our third favourite Driver, behind Pauline and Dry Bowser. He just misses the top spot due to his slightly lower chance of starting with a Frenzy! than Dry Bowser. Aside from that, he’s virtually the same Driver, just with less Favoured Courses.

Special Skill Description
Bowser’s Shell Hurl this sharp shell in front of your kart to scatter opponents

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Dino Dino Jungle T
  • Bowser’s Castle 1
  • Bowser’s Castle 1T
  • Neo Bowser City

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Kalimari Desert
  • Rainbow Road T
  • Bowser’s Castle 1R
  • Rock Rock Mountain R
  • New York Minute 1T

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong is an excellent character for those that like to play Mario Kart Tour like a proper racer, relying on speed to break from the pack and clench victory. His Special Skill, Giant Banana, does a great job of holding onto victory too, as it can stumble up to four different racers if you place it just right.

Special Skill Description
Giant Banana This particularly stern-looking Giant Banana splits into three Bananas when hit.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • DK Pass
  • Waluigi Pinball R
  • Dino Dino Jungle
  • Rock Rock Mountain

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass T
  • Dino Dino Jungle R
  • Dino Dino Jungle T
  • Koopa Troopa Beach R
  • Rock Rock Mountain R
  • New York Minute 1
  • New York Minute 1T
  • Tokyo Blur 1R

B Tier:

Our B Tier includes Drivers with Special Skills that are offensive in nature, but a little less reliable or more situational than those in our A Tier. They include Fire Flower, Yoshi’s Egg, Boomerang Flower, and Triple Green Shells.

New! – Mario (Santa)

As well as a great new design, Mario (Santa) features the ever-reliable Fire Flower Special Skill.

Special Skill Description
Fire Flower Lets you throw three fireballs. Spin out your opponents while you burn up the track!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • DK Pass
  • Mario Circuit R/T
  • Rainbow Road R
  • Rainbow Road T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Choco Island 2
  • Mario Circuit 3R
  • DK Pass R
  • Rock Rock Mountain R
  • Rainbow Road R/T

Yoshi

We’ve dropped Yoshi from A to B tier as his Special Skill, Yoshi’s Egg, isn’t quite as powerful as we first thought. It’s effectively a Red Shell that breaks, releasing an item. This can be excellent if you end up getting a mushroom, but we’ve also suffered from a Banana or Green Shell popping out in front of us.

Special Skill Description
Yoshi’s Egg Chases down opponents. But what’s inside?! You’ll find out when it breaks!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Rock Rock Mountain
  • Yoshi Circuit
  • Yoshi Circuit T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Dino Dino Jungle
  • Dino Dino Jungle R
  • Yoshi Circuit R

Toad (Pit Crew)

We’re not sure why Toad (Pit Crew) is a thing but he’s essentially the baby variant of the character. His Special Skill Boomerang Flower excels at providing space when you’re battling as part of a pack.

Special Skill Description
Boomerang Flower Whirls around and around your kart to strike nearby opponents.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit 1
  • Mario Circuit 2
  • Mario Circuit 3
  • Mario Circuit 2T
  • Mario Circuit T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Yoshi Circuit
  • Mario Circuit 3T
  • Toad Circuit
  • Toad Circuit T
  • Paris Promenade T

Luigi

Luigi is a like-for-like with his brother, Mario, as both feature the Fire Flower Special Skill. He’s worth using during this particular Tour, as he gets three items on many of the new courses.

Special Skill Description
Fire Flower Lets you throw three fireballs. Spin out your opponents while you burn up the track!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • DK Pass T
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon T
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Luigi’s Mansion T
  • Ghost Valley 1

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Luigi’s Mansion R
  • Waluigi Pinball R

Baby Luigi

Baby Luigi is a brand new baby character that arrived in Mario Kart Tour as part of the Halloween Tour. It features the Boomerang Flower Special Skill, which remains quite strong.

Special Skill Description
Boomerang Flower Whirls around and around your kart to strike nearby opponents.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Luigi’s Mansion R

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Mario Circuit R/T
  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Waluigi Pinball
  • Daisy Hills T

Lakitu

Everyone’s favourite camera guy is a solid option in Mario Kart Tour, nestling snugly in our B tier. He’s got two top tier Favoured Courses and the Triple Green Shells Special Skill.

Special Skill Description
Triple Green Shells Three Green Shells surround your kart. They’ll fire off rapidly all at once!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Paris Promenade 1T
  • Mario Circuit 3T
  • Waluigi Pinball T
  • Ghost Valley 1T
  • Toad Circuit T
  • Mario Circuit 2T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon
  • Dino Dino Jungle R
  • Rock Rock Mountain R
  • Mario Circuit 2
  • New York Minute 1R/T
  • Tokyo Blur 1
  • Tokyo Blur 1T

Iggy

Iggy is a solid Driver thanks to the excellent Triple Green Shells Special Skill. He’s slightly let down by having only one three item Favoured Course though, so you won’t end up using him much. Shame.

Special Skill Description
Triple Green Shells Three Green Shells surround your kart. They’ll fire off rapidly all at once!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Choco Island 2R

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Paris Promenade 1T
  • Ghost Valley 1T
  • Bowser’s Castle 1T
  • Koopa Troopa Beach T
  • Kalimari Desert R
  • Neo Bowser City T
  • Rock Rock Mountain T
  • Mario Circuit 2
  • Mario Circuit 2R

Larry

Larry is a like-for-like with Baby Mario, bringing the Boomerang Flower Special Skill to the table. He suffers from just having the one three item Favoured Course, but he’s a solid racer nonetheless.

Special Skill Description
Boomerang Flower Whirls around and around your kart to strike nearby opponents.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Kalimari Desert R

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Mario Circuit 3T
  • Paris Promenade 1R
  • Paris Promenade 1R/T
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon R
  • Kalimari Desert T
  • Neo Bowser City
  • Neo Bowser City T
  • Rock Rock Mountain T

Metal Mario

Metal Mario is a great Driver in the right hands, we just don’t think his Special Skill, Fire Flower, is quite good enough to bump him into the A tier. It’s similar to three Green Shells, in that it’s a spammable requires a solid aim but it’s a safer bet, as it can’t backfire and ruin your day like a Green Shell can.

Special Skill Description
Fire Flower Lets you throw three fireballs. Spin out your opponents while you burn up the track!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • DK Pass T
  • Mario Circuit 2R
  • Rainbow Road
  • Rainbow Road T
  • Rock Rock Mountain R
  • Shy Guy Bazaar

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Mario Circuit 1T
  • Waluigi Pinball
  • Rainbow Road R
  • Dino Dino Jungle T
  • Toad Circuit
  • Yoshi Circuit R
  • Yoshi Circuit T
  • Mario Circuit 1T
  • Shy Guy Bazaar R
  • Shy Guy Bazaar T

Mario

Mario is to Metal Mario as Bowser is to Dry Bowser. They’re virtually the same character, but Mario is slightly weaker due to his lower chance at getting a Frenzy! at the start of a race and fewer favoured courses.

Special Skill Description
Fire Flower Lets you throw three fireballs. Spin out your opponents while you burn up the track!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit T
  • Koopa Troopa Beach
  • Mario Circuit 1
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass
  • Koopa Troopa Beach R
  • Yoshi Circuit
  • Yoshi Circuit R
  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • Shy Guy Bazaar R

Baby Mario

Baby Mario elevates himself to B tier due to his Special Skill, Boomerang Flower, which is a strong defensive skill that can hit nearby enemies that come close to Baby Mario.

Special Skill Description
Boomerang Flower Whirls around and around your kart to strike nearby opponents.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Waluigi Pinball
  • Mario Circuit 1T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass
  • DK Pass T
  • Waluigi Pinball T
  • Daisy Hills R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach
  • Toad Circuit
  • Toad Circuit T
  • Yoshi Circuit

Dry Bones

Dry Bones is a like-for-like with Koopa Troopa for those that prefer characters with a spooky touch. Much like Baby Mario, Dry Bones is elevated by his special skill, Triple Green Shells, which is an excellent defensive ability.

Special Skill Description
Triple Green Shells Three Green Shells surround your kart. They’ll fire off rapidly all at once!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Bowser’s Castle 1T
  • Shy Guy Bazaar T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Choco Island 2T
  • Kalimari Desert
  • Bowser’s Castle 1
  • Bowser’s Castle 1R
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon R
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon T

Koopa Troopa

Koopa Troopa is just a colourful version of Dry Bones, with the only difference being their Favoured Courses.

Special Skill Description
Triple Green Shells Three Green Shells surround your kart. They’ll fire off rapidly all at once!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Koopa Troopa Beach

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Mario Circuit T
  • Choco Island 2
  • Tokyo Blur 1R
  • Bowser’s Castle 1T
  • Koopa Troopa Beach R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach T
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon R

C Tier:

Our C Tier includes drivers with Special Skills that are defensive or self-empowering in nature, and are great for beginners.

Wendy

Wendy is a like-for-like with Peach, thanks to her handy Heart Special Skill. She’s not our favourite, but an excellent choice for beginners.

Special Skill Description
Heart This Heart is overflowing with kindness! It will protect you from opponent’s attacks.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Choco Island 2

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon R
  • Daisy Hills T
  • Mario Circuit
  • Mario Circuit T
  • Neo Bowser City R

Toad

Toad is a great character for beginners. He’s a lightweight character with solid acceleration and a decent turning speed and drifting ability. If you get into trouble, you’ll recover faster with Toad, and he makes even the sharpest corners look easy compared to your heavier characters. His Special Skill, Triple Mushrooms, helps make up for his lack of speed with a long-lasting boost.

Special Skill Description
Triple Mushrooms Gives you three Mushrooms to use in one go for a long-lasting boost.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit R
  • Toad Circuit
  • Rock Rock Mountain T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Paris Promenade 1R
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Ghost Valley 1
  • Ghost Valley 1R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach
  • Toad Circuit T
  • Mario Circuit 1
  • Mario Circuit 1T

Toadette

Toadette is an identical character to Toad, with different Favoured Courses.

Special Skill Description
Triple Mushrooms Gives you three Mushrooms to use in one go for a long-lasting boost.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit 3R
  • Daisy Hills R
  • Toad Circuit

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Paris Promenade 1
  • Mario Circuit 3
  • Mario Circuit
  • Mario Circuit T
  • Daisy Hills
  • Koopa Troopa Beach
  • Toad Circuit R
  • Toad Circuit T

Peach

Peach is a decent middle of the road character, with a reliable Special Skill in the Heart, which protects you for a surprisingly lengthy time from dangerous items.

Special Skill Description
Heart This Heart is overflowing with kindness! It will protect you from opponent’s attacks.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Luigi’s Mansion R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach T
  • Yoshi Circuit R
  • Mario Circuit 1T

  • Paris Promenade 1
  • Mario Circuit
  • Mario Circuit R
  • Toad Circuit T
  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon T
  • Shy Guy Bazaar

Daisy

Daisy is an identical character to Peach, just with different Favoured Courses.

Special Skill Description
Heart This Heart is overflowing with kindness! It will protect you from opponent’s attacks.

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Daisy Hills
  • Daisy Hills T
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon R
  • Shy Guy Bazaar R

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Daisy Hills R/T
  • Paris Promenade 1R
  • Mario Circuit T
  • Toad Circuit
  • Yoshi Circuit T
  • Shy Guy Bazaar T

Baby Rosalina

Baby Rosalina shares the same problem as Baby Peach and Baby Daisy: their lacklustre Bubble Special Skill. She only gets three items on two courses: Rainbow Road T and Choco Island 2T, so you won’t really end up using her all that much.

Special Skill Description
Bubble Kick back and relax as this bubble floats you around. But beware the sudden pop!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Rainbow Road T
  • Choco Island 2T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass
  • Rainbow Road R/T
  • Ghost Valley 1
  • Luigi’s Mansion T
  • Rainbow Road R
  • Yoshi Circuit R
  • Mario Circuit 2T

Lemmy

Lemmy is a slightly better option than Baby Rosalina, thanks to him having two three item Favoured Courses, but he’s not an option we’d recommend if you can avoid it.

Special Skill Description
Bubble Kick back and relax as this bubble floats you around. But beware the sudden pop!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon R
  • Rainbow Road R
  • Mario Circuit 2T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Bowser’s Castle 1
  • Rainbow Road
  • Toad Circuit R
  • Choco Island 2T

Baby Peach:

Aside from Baby Mario, we’re not huge fans of the Baby characters. Ultimately, they’re solid for beginners, sharing Toad and Toadette’s decent acceleration and ease of turning and drifting, but their Special Skills lets them down. Baby Peach’s Bubble is too unpredictable to be of much use for experts.

Special Skill Description
Bubble Kick back and relax as this bubble floats you around. But beware the sudden pop!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Ghost Valley 1
  • Tokyo Blur 1
  • Tokyo Blur 1T
  • Choco Island 2
  • Daisy Hills R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach R
  • Mario Circuit 1R

Baby Daisy:

Baby Daisy is identical to Baby Peach, aside from Favoured Courses.

Special Skill Description
Bubble Kick back and relax as this bubble floats you around. But beware the sudden pop!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Daisy Hills T
  • Daisy Hills R/T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Kalimari Desert T
  • Choco Island 2R
  • Tokyo Blur 1R/T
  • Daisy Hills R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach T
  • Toad Circuit R
  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon
  • Shy Guy Bazaar

D Tier:

Our D Tier includes drivers with Special Skills that provide both benefits to you and other racers, or provide effects that don’t particularly provide any racing benefit but are harmful. This includes Dash Ring, Coin Box, and Mushroom Cannon.

New! – Rose Gold Peach

Rose Gold Peach is a great design but the Coin Box Special Skill disappoints a bit.

Special Skill Description
Coin Box Spits out coins with reckless abandon. It’s a very generous item!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • DK Pass T
  • Rainbow Road T
  • Rainbow Road R/T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Mario Circuit 1T
  • Waluigi Pinball T
  • Mario Circuit 3T
  • DK Pass
  • Mario Circuit
  • Neo Bowser City R

Rosalina (Halloween)

Rosalina’s Halloween outfit doesn’t make her any more powerful, unfortunately, as she’s still let down by the same unreliable Special Skill.

Special Skill Description
Dash Ring Pass through this for a burst of speed. Your opponents can use it, too, so make it count!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Rainbow Road R/T
  • Shy Guy Bazaar
  • Choco Island 2
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Ghost Valley 1
  • Ghost Valley 1T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Daisy Hills R/T
  • Paris Promenade 1
  • Paris Promenade 1R
  • Neo Bowser City
  • Rainbow Road
  • Rainbow Road R
  • Rainbow Road T
  • Ghost Valley 1R

Rosalina

Rosalina is possibly the biggest disappointment of the bunch when it comes to new characters. We’re just not a big fan of Special Skills that also help your opponents, and the Dash Ring will give anyone who’s battling alongside you a speed boost too. Disappointing.

Special Skill Description
Dash Ring Pass through this for a burst of speed. Your opponents can use it, too, so make it count!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Rainbow Road R/T
  • Paris Promenade 1R/T
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon
  • Mario Circuit R
  • Rainbow Road

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Paris Promenade 1R
  • Mario Circuit 3T
  • Neo Bowser City R
  • Rainbow Road R
  • Mario Circuit 2
  • Choco Island 2R

Ludwig

Ludwig shares Rosalina’s Dash Ring Special Skill, which gives you a few small speed boosts if you pass through the rings. It functions similarly to Peachette’s Mushroom Cannon but it’s far easier to pass through the Dash Rings than collect the Mushrooms Peachette drops so we’ve bumped it up a tier. However, it still helps your opponents as much as you so Ludwig isn’t a character we’d recommend using.

Special Skill Description
Dash Ring Pass through this for a burst of speed. Your opponents can use it, too, so make it count!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Bowser’s Castle 1
  • Kalimari Desert

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Rainbow Road
  • Shy Guy Bazaar R

Shy Guy (Pastry Chef)

Shy Guy (Pastry Chef) is another incredibly random character in this Paris Tour, and not a particularly good one. The Mushroom Cannon is too imprecise to be of any genuine help, and is more likely to help your opponents than you.

Special Skill Description
Mushroom Cannon Rapidly fires Mushrooms onto the course. Grab as many as you can to dash ahead!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Shy Guy Bazaar R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach T
  • Kalimari Desert
  • Neo Bowser City R
  • Paris Promenade 1R
  • Paris Promenade 1T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Shy Guy Bazaar
  • Choco Island 2R
  • Rock Rock Mountain T
  • Paris Promenade 1
  • Paris Promenade 1R/T

Peach Vacation

Peach (Vacation) gets the Coin Box Special Skill that was introduced during the Japan Tour. It’s useful for collecting points and coins but not if you need help bringing down some pesky opponents.

Special Skill Description
Coin Box Spits out coins with reckless abandon. It’s a very generous item!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Daisy Hills T
  • Mario Circuit R
  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • Mario Circuit 3
  • Paris Promenade 1
  • Paris Promenade 1R/T
  • Toad Circuit R
  • Koopa Troopa Beach
  • Koopa Troopa Beach T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Mario Circuit
  • Mario Circuit 1
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon R
  • Mario Circuit 3R

Mario (Hakama)

Mario (Hakama) is an intriguing new character, as he offers the Coin Box Special Skill. We’d rate him as C Tier right now, given that it’s an item that doesn’t really help Mario or those around him, but is potentially very useful for score chasers, as coins are very lucrative at dishing out points.

Special Skill Description
Coin Box Spits out coins with reckless abandon. It’s a very generous item!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit 3R
  • Waluigi Pinball R
  • Mario Circuit 1
  • Mario Circuit 1T
  • Bowser’s Castle 1T
  • Mario Circuit T
  • Mario Circuit 2
  • Tokyo Blur 1
  • Tokyo Blur 1R/T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • DK Pass R
  • Ghost Valley 1T
  • Waluigi Pinball
  • Dino Dino Jungle R
  • Bowser’s Castle 1R
  • Rainbow Road T
  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • Mario Circuit 2T
  • Shy Guy Bazaar T
  • Tokyo Blur 1T

Peach (Kimono)

Peach (Kimono) is not worth fretting over as one of the two Tokyo Tour Spotlight Drivers. She’s just an all-round disappointment, that’s only worth using if you’ve got no other options on her Favoured Courses. Mushroom Cannon is just a useless Special Skill.

Special Skill Description
Mushroom Cannon Rapidly fires Mushrooms onto the course. Grab as many as you can to dash ahead!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit 3T
  • Waluigi Pinball
  • Daisy Hills R
  • Mario Circuit
  • Mario Circuit 2R
  • Tokyo Blur 1R
  • Tokyo Blur 1T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Mario Circuit R/T
  • Paris Promenade T
  • Mario Circuit R
  • Rainbow Road
  • Mario Circuit 1
  • Tokyo Blur 1
  • Tokyo Blur 1R/T

Peachette:

If you’re defending a lead, Peachette is a fairly solid option. Her Special Skill, Mushroom Cannon, can show you with Mushrooms that you can chain together for multiple boosts. However, if you’re in the middle of a pack – which you will be at pretty much all times in Mario Kart Tour – you’re just as likely to give your opponents a boost as you are. Its use is too situational.

Special Skill Description
Mushroom Cannon Rapidly fires Mushrooms onto the course. Grab as many as you can to dash ahead!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit R/T
  • Waluigi Pinball T
  • Mario Circuit
  • Dino Dino Jungle R
  • Toad Circuit
  • Toad Circuit T

Favoured Courses – Two Items:

  • Daisy Hills R/T
  • Mario Circuit 3
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Mario Circuit R
  • Rainbow Road R
  • Daisy Hills
  • Yoshi Circuit
  • Yoshi Circuit T
  • Mario Circuit 1
  • Mario Circuit 1R

New! – E Tier

We’ve included a new E Tier as while we were balancing the rest of the list, we felt like there needed to be a space for items that were an absolute liability. We were unfairly lumping those items with those that are simply not helpful or can help your opponents.

Items in the E Tier include Double Bob-ombs, Bob-omb Cannon, and Banana Barrels.

New! – Black Shy Guy

Black Shy Guy has our least favourite Special Skill the Bob-omb Cannon, and it’s an absolute liability.

Special Skill Description
Bob-omb Cannon This blaster automatically launches a volley of Bob-ombs. Handle with care!

Favoured Courses – Three Items:

  • Mario Circuit 1R
  • Cheep Cheep Lagoon
  • DK Pass R
  • Ghost Valley 1T

Diddy Kong:

We really wanted to like Diddy Kong, but he has an even more frustrating Special Skill than Shy Guy. In certain situations, the Banana Barrels can prove useful, but chances are you’ll frustrate yourself as much as your opponents.

Special Skill Description
Banana Barrels This barrel automatically launches Bananas. Turn the course into a sea of Bananas!

King Boo (Luigi’s Mansion)

The standard King Boo might well be one of the best racers in Mario Kart Tour right now but, unfortunately, his Luigi’s Mansion counterpart registers as easily one of the weakest. That’s thanks to his Bob-omb Cannon special skill, which somehow happens to be even worse than Diddy Kong’s Banana Cannon.

Special Skill Description
Bob-omb Cannon This blaster automatically launches a volley of Bob-ombs. Handle with care!

Mario (Musician):

Mario (Musician) shares the exact same problem as Shy Guy: his Special Skill, which is far too situational. He’s also just as big a disappointment as Peachette, in that they’re both High End characters that sit in our D Tier.

Special Skill Description
Double Bob-ombs Gives you two Bob-ombs you can hurl at once. Engulf your opponents in a mighty blast!

Shy Guy:

Shy Guy isn’t a particularly bad character, he just doesn’t stand out in any way. He’s also let down by his Special Skill, Double Bob-ombs, which is too situational and can easily backfire if you’re not careful.

Roy

We really wanted to love Roy. He’s such a legend with his outrageously pink sunglasses, but his poor Special Skill Double Bob-ombs lets him down. They’re too prown to backfiring unless you literally throw them backwards or use them defensively.

Wario

We wanted to love Wario as much as you did, but that Double Bob-ombs Special Skill lets him down. Still, on his best Favoured Courses he’s worth bringing for the score boost.

Waluigi

Waluigi fans get neglected often, and his inclusion in Mario Kart Tour is no exception. His Special Skill, Double Bob-ombs is far too easy to get wrong and backfires often.
